64 Brave Wilber Employees participated in the 5KHAOS this August, located in the rural landscape of Carlock IL. Runners covered the 3+ miles of rolling terrain and conquered over 30 obstacles of towering walls, tractor tire flipping, log balancing and crawling through mud.

Cortney Fleming, Director of PR at Wilber, took the lead by finishing first in just 36 minutes. 2 other Wilber team members decided to run the course with backpacks and dumbbells to make the day more challenging. Nobody got lost this year (like year’s past when the rain washed away some of the course markings) so that’s definitely a plus! And Wilber received the coveted “Golden Shovel Award” for the highest number of participants this year! The shovel is currently on display in our North Campus lobby.

This was the 6th year that Wilber participated and sponsored the 5KHAOS, paying each team member’s entry fee and half the fee for a plus one. Everyone received an event t-shirt and got the opportunity to make some great memories.

The 5KHAOS donated this year’s proceeds to The Easter Seals of Central Illinois and Children’s Home and Aid, which made this not only a fun event to participate in, but a good cause for Wilber employees as well.

“People sign up that just want to contribute to a great cause. Some are fairly competitive and others have never completed a 5K and just want to see how they do. No matter the reason, we always have a great time!”    -Tiffany Gilbert, Director of People Relations at Wilber

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 5KHAOS. We look forward to more “Call to Action” events that support our community, develop our team building skills and allow us to have a blast getting dirty in the great outdoors.
