Wilber Conquered the KHAOS

Reflection on 34 years of Subrogation

Back in 1979, when I was a 1st year adjuster, subrogation was considered an “oh yeah, I’ll get to it” situation.   Claim handling back then was a one person experience, from intake of new claims to resolving salvage and subrogation.  Carrier to carrier recoveries and arbitration was usually left to Friday afternoons, if there was time. 

Uninsured Motorist pursuit was minimal at best.   There was the occasional dictate from home office to raise the level of recoveries efforts.   A couple of adjusters would team up and go knock on doors trying to find the money.   That was a very discomforting experience that was maybe done once a quarter.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On May 4th, over 200 local business owners, politicians, chamber members, and Wilber employees joined together to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony of Wilber and Associates at their new location. The three hour long celebration included tours of the brand new 20,000 square foot facility which has been completely renovated to provide employees with a fun, enjoyable, and productive work experience. The amenities include a “fun” room complete with pool table, arcade games, 80 inch flat panel TV and lounge style seating as well as a large cafeteria where visitors could sip on premium coffee or indulge themselves on any of the myriad of food choices provided throughout the day. Tours through the collector bays and offices also gave visitors an opportunity to learn more about Wilber, its employees, and the great work they do on a daily basis.

Wilber celebrates with the McLean County Chamber of Commerce

At 11:00 on May 4th, Ken Wilber will be cutting the ceremonial ribbon in front of Wilber’s new home office.   Wilber’s new 20,000 square foot facility located at 210 Landmark Drive in Normal is equipped to house 100 employees.   In an effort to attract new employees and reward current employees, the office has been outfitted with amenities normally found at companies such as Google and Facebook.   There is a relaxation room and a “fun” room that can be used by employees during breaks.  Many of our visitors have asked, “Are you taking applications?”
The additional room in the new building has allowed us to expand our client portfolio.

Wilber Gives Back

We decided to start a ‘Wilber Gives Back’ program. We had our first outing in November 2010. We were able to go to the Home Sweet Home mission and serve lunch. Over 20 people showed up to volunteer. It was a great opportunity for us to be able to serve others in our community. Ken donated all of the food for that lunch, and we were able to feed around 75 people. It was very exciting to get to know some of the people that live and work at the mission. It was a lot of fun working in the kitchen together. We were able to cook and serve food, clean up, wash dishes, mop floors, clear and wipe tables, and some of the guys were even able to help unload some trucks.

Wilber Fall Festival 2010

Wilber held it’s annual Fall Festival, complete with a chili and dessert cook-off! Ken Wilber hosted the party at his house this year. Almost all of the families from Wilber were represented. We had well over 30 kids that got to paint pumpkins, play kickball, roast hot dogs and make s’mores! Ken provided a travelling “coffee cart” for people to enjoy. Glory Beans Coffee from Lake Mills, WI, served all the hot and cold coffee and tea drinks you could imagine. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the Wilber employees really got to spend some quality “fun” time together! It was great to see everyone’s families and just sit back and relax!
